Last weekend, Pridham’s held the live in-person and online auction of The Markey Canadiana and Folk Art Collection with Fine Inclusions from Carol Telfer & Larry Foster. The atmosphere was lively as the esteemed auctioneer, Robin Pridham, led the auction for an impressive duration of almost eight hours. Sergii Martseniuk, one of Pridham’s fine and decorative art experts whom you may have spotted by Robin, showcased upcoming lots. A total of three hundred and eighty-six lots were offered, leaving both attendees and online bidders with a wide selection of interesting and rare pieces of Canadiana and Folk Art.

The highlight of the auction was undeniably the sale of several extraordinary pieces that not only met but surpassed their initial estimates. Notable sales included the two captivating Maud Lewis Seascapes, initially estimated to fetch between $15,000 and $20,000, ultimately selling for an impressive $24,000 and $22,800. Another exceptional piece, the Child Québec Pine V Box, with an estimated value of $1,500 – $2,000, fetched an astounding $7,200, far exceeding the anticipated estimate. The Rare Grenfell Hooked Rug, initially estimated between $2,000 and $3,000, garnered considerable attention, finally selling for a noteworthy $6,000. Other notable items, such as the Exceptional Cherry Quilt Stand, the Oil on Board By Dr. Robert Blais, and the Carved Dog by Wilfrid Richard, all fetched prices that far surpassed their initial estimates, showcasing the exceptional quality and appeal of the collections which were brought to market.

The auction was a true celebration of art and craftsmanship, drawing the attention of avid collectors and art enthusiasts from Ontario and Québec. The vibrant ambiance of the live audience, along with online viewers participating through Live Auctioneers and HiBid, further added to the enthusiastic bidding.
